The Rumble

Sappy movie of the week (or month… whenever it was that I wrote about 500 Days of Summer).

Why is getting your very own Lena Headey too much to ask for? I used to love this movie. So much that I’m pretty sure my high expectations in terms of relationships, women (I’m yet to meet a lesbian who’s as pretty as any of these people) and my belief there is this ‘larger-than-life’ love out there have all derived from this cheesy movie.

Now all I think about when I watch it is that 3 years ago, I invited this girl over, watched the movie terribly uncomfortable hoping it would give me the guts to do or say something (it didn’t) or give her the guts to do or say something (it didn’t). We did get together eventually and it didn’t end as beautifully as this movie does…

I watched this film yesterday (and over 10 times before that).

Now, I’m not usually the kind of person who enjoys watching a movie over and over again. I usually need at least a 6 month break before I can do so without being bored out of my mind but there is something about this movie.

It feels very close to home and yet, I don’t understand which character I identify with, Tom? Summer? Both? Neither? At this point I think I might be leaning towards Tom in a pathetic sort of way but rest assured things will be ok soon.

So I honestly don’t understand if this is a brilliant movie or I’m brilliantly cheesy - perhaps a bit of both? What do you think?
